Our high speed rates reach 350/minute, accuracy is to +/0.5 g @2 sigma, and capacities are up to 10kg. Multi-Lane Checkweighers. What is a Checkweigher? Thompson Scale Co. produces in-motion checkweighers, which weigh packaged products as they move along a production line. The checkweigher monitors the output weight of a load cells mounted under a precision-built conveyor. The controls are able to detect when a package passes under the scale conveyor. They also capture the weight as it exits the conveyor. You can see the weight of each package and decide if it should be accepted or rejected. Yes. We offer programming and motor controls that can stop the package, weigh the package and allow the operator hand-adjust the weight. Once the weight is within a safe range, the operator presses the button to restart the conveyor. This is very useful for open-mouth net weight scales with a rate below 10 bags/minute. We can accommodate scale conveyors with angles up to 12deg and in-feed and out conveyors with different angles. Which checkweigher is right for me? We offer a 3-zone, 5-zone and 6-zone checkweigher programs that compare the package's actual weight to a target and lower/upper reject limits. If the weight of the package is higher than the accepted limits, it will be rejected. Another popular program is the manifest or order fulfillment application. There are no weight targets or reject limits. The package is weighed and its weight sent out to both the serial port as well as the Ethernet TCP/IP Port. In the produce industry, special programs for dual weights are very popular. These can be used for applications like weighing a 3 lbs. and a 5lb. bag and 5 pounds. Bag of apples randomly from the same production plant. Our technical staff and sales can help you select the best program for your application. How accurate can a checkweigher be? The scale accuracy depends on the capacity of both the scale and the package being weighed. For example, the 500-pound capacity of our heavy-duty checkweigher is used. To support 200 lbs, the load cell can be used. Scale conveyor for package weights upto 110 lbs. The best accuracy for this scale would be +/-0.05 pounds. A scale capable of weighing 1 lbs. Bags of vegetables will most likely have a 10 kg capacity and can measure from +/-2 to 3 grams. How many packages will a checkweigher weigh in a minute? The package size and weight will determine the speed. The minimum weight time for each package on our TSC350 drag chain style weighweigher is just over 0.1 seconds. The maximum speed of this scale is 350 packages/minute. The Model 5511 heavy-duty, checkweigher has a maximum weigh time of 0.6 seconds and an average rate of 60 pounds per minute. Do you require both a static and dynamic calibration? A static calibration is sufficient. A known weight should be used for calibration. Refer to the user manual to determine the appropriate weight for your scale. What is the calibrator's recommended test weight? There are two things that will determine the correct size test weight. The capacity of the scale is the first. A load cell millivolt variation of at least 3mV must exist between an empty conveyor scale and a test weight. To run the checkweigher, the test weight must equal or exceed half the weight of any heavy package. The heavy-duty checkweigher is rated up 110 lbs. For package weights, we recommend that you use 50 lbs. Test weight. This setting the maximum weight rate at 120 lbs. Do the product types require a different checkweigher? No. No. The weight of the package determines this range. Weights that are too short will not be repeatable and/or accurate. A table with the appropriate weight times for each type of checkweigher is available in the user's manual. How do I test if my scale is working correctly? There are a few things you can check. You must first verify that the scale works properly. Click on the Calibration screen and choose "Check Calibration". Null the display. The weight value must be stable and should move in increments of /-1 or 2. It should not move away from zero and should remain stable while the scale conveyor is operating. For assistance if the scale does not remain stable, contact Thompson Scale customer support. The run screen allows you to verify that inputs are working correctly. Touch the large weight, located at the top of the screen. The bottom of your screen will change. It will now show 8 rectangles as inputs and 8 as outputs. Check if your photo-eyes function properly. Also, check if the reject input is working when there's a rejected weight. There are several test procedures available under the "Tools" menu. How do you change the load cells on a heavy duty checkweigher. A flexure-style scale measuring 500 lbs is included with the heavy-duty weigher. S-type load cell. NEVER CHANGE UNDER THE SCALE. You must first remove the scale conveyor, then the scale's lid. The load cell's bottom is suspended by a wire rope. You can refer to our user manual for information on how to replace load cells, or contact our customer service team for assistance. Is it possible to change the speed of my checkweigher's conveyor? Most of our scale conveyors have the ability to change speeds, but it is best to be cautious. Maximum conveyor speed is determined by how long your longest package is and how long the scale conveyor. The conveyor should not be run at a speed that is too fast. Incorrect weights and a lack of adequate weigh time will result. Talk to the factory about speed changes. We'll give you a recommendation on the fastest speed for your application. What is the reject signal that the checkweigher uses? For rejects of low or high weight, the default configuration is output #8. These signals can all be separated via the configuration menu. A checkweigher controller has an input that is dedicated to an upstream device like a barcode scanner or metal detector. If the device detects reject, it turns this input on and the controller controls timing to reject that package. Each reject signal includes a delay-timer to allow the device to act on the rejected package. Interfacing with a PLC which in turn controls the reject device, you can set this timer to a 0.00 second delay or 0.30 second. What type of data is available Data can be sent via RS232 or RS-422, and Ethernet TCP/IP. The weight value is always transmitted by default. Other data fields you can enable include the time/date stamp and pass/fail bits, total units and target weight, as well as lower and higher reject values. Data is sent when weights occur and are not saved for later download. As an option, we offer an Ethernet IP port. The EIP port interfaces directly and securely with Allen-Bradley's range of PLCs. It gives you complete control over all settings and configurations within the controller. The user can upload and create recipes as well monitor the health of the checkweigher. We have a variety of options for data logging. The #930 Data Logger is the most affordable option. It is hardwired to a serial port on the controller of the checkweigher. A thumb drive is used to log weights. The user can then extract the data and load it into their computer. CSV files can be used with spreadsheet programs because they are compatible with the data files. SPPC Lite software is a lightweight solution that runs on the users PC and connects via TPC/IP to the scale controller. SPPC Lite is available here. We offer English as the default and Spanish (Mexico), French (Canada), and other languages as an option. How do you troubleshoot the scales load cell? An electric multi-meter with a reading of millivolts will be needed. To start, turn the meter on to volts DC and then take a measurement at the load connector of the checkweigher controller. Take between +EX & -EX. This reading should not exceed 10VDC. If it is not, please contact the factory. Set the meter at mV, and then measure between +SIG to -SIG. This value will depend on the capacity of your scale and the type of checkweigher. It should fall between 9 and 17mV, which is the range of load cells' total capacity. A load cell that is rated at 2mV/V will have a maximum range between 9 and 17mV. If the reading exceeds 20mV, it means that the load cells are damaged. Other load cells have a rating of 3mV/V. Maximum range is 30mV
